SIS
provides services for at-risk students including, drug and alcohol
abuse prevention and intervention, grief and counseling
support, coping skills, and gang prevention and intervention.
It includes the following programs:
Pathfinders: A gang intervention program for students K-12.
Peer Leadership Teams: High school students who promote healthy life skills through positive role modeling. They teach elementary students the refusal skills model.
Bully-Proofing: Identification and discussion of the "bullying" problem and how schools can develop a school-wide program.
At-Risk Counseling: Individual and group counseling to offer guidance, mentoring and counseling from SIS staff.
First Offenders: An early intervention program to educate and re-educate students on issues regarding drugs/alcohol. An option for first time offenders of Policy AS90.
Crisis Response Counseling: Helps students, parents and educators deal with the initial stresses of a crisis.
Ribbon Month: National Anti-Violence (purple ribbon) and Anti-Drug (red ribbon) month which is celebrated throughout the District each October.
Service-Learning: A method of teaching through which students apply newly acquired skills and knowledge to real life needs in their communities.
QPR: A suicide prevention program designed to raise public awareness about suicide and assist in identifying the warning signs.
Prevention Dimensions: A two-day training seminar for all new teachers which addresses at-risk issues pertinent to their classrooms. Grade level curriculum is distributed for use with students.
DARE: A national anti-drug and anti-alcohol program taught by the local law enforcement agencies.
Connections: A pro-active program that concentrates on developing gender specific issues with middle-school students.
