Teaching Strategies  




This strategy involves studying a primary source document in detail. The teacher can put the photo on the overhead and divide it into quadrants. The students study and respond to each quadrant, then to the photo as a whole. There is a handout available on the National Archives website for students to write on. As students become more adept, they can work on photos alone or in small groups.
