Jordan School District Professional Development Classes:

6-Trait Writing Model: Learn how to use this model as a means for writing instruction, a tool for student revision, a devise for curriculum alignment and an instrument for school, district or state measurement.

Comprehension Framework for Content-area Teachers: This course focuses on the application of the district’s Comprehension Framework which features eight strategies to use before, during and after reading various non-fiction texts. It is co-taught by the Secondary Literacy Specialist and Social Studies, Math and Science Specialists. This course is designed to help teachers understand the implications of the Scholastic Reading Inventory for teachers outside language arts and for teachers new to content area literacy.

  • An affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE)
  • The mission of UCTE/LA is "to involve K-16 teachers across Utah in professional opportunities which develop leadership and allow teachers to share expertise in the instruction of English and Language Arts." Wonderful resources are found through the organization's website and through membership in UCTE/LA. Check it out!

Utah Council of the International Reading Association

  • An affiliate of the International Reading Association (IRA)
  • The mission of UCIRA is to promote, strengthen, and extend language literacy throughout the state.
  • Jordan School District also sponsors a local association Jordan Council of International Reading Association (JCIRA). Watch for meeting dates and times in The Current.
