- Information for Referring English Language Learners (ELL) to Special Education
- ELL students must receive appropriate English Language Development (ELD) instruction AND appropriate tiered interventions for a period of time long enough to demonstrate whether or not the student is making steady progress BEFORE a special education referral can be considered.
- Please remember that Special Education Services are not "extra help" for students but in fact are put in place for students with a diagnosed disability.
- If you have an ELL student that your team is concerned about lack of academic progress, please contact your ALS Teacher specialist to set up a consult with your PLC Team. We will be making appointments to come to your schools, review student progress with your teams, and help to design an appropriate intervention and progress monitoring plans
